A Collings enthusiast ordered this dream combination from Bill and the gang some time ago. Since the order date, he found his tastes had changed somewhat, and to make matters worse, the guitar was finally completed a very inopportune time. So to make a long story short, this remarkable as new custom Collings beauty has been made available...and I'm glad I got a crack at it! The two piece Madagascar Rosewood back is attention-getting and then some, which beautiful inking and spider-webbing reminiscent of Brazilian rosewood. A creamy German Spruce top has been supplemented with a pale burst and an abalone rosette. The 12 frets to the body/cutaway/000 combination yields an instrument that's very comfortable and very meaty when it comes to tone. It has a complex sound with some delightful 12 fret throatiness...very reminiscent of the Blazer & Henkes 000-42 that has drawn rave reviews before and after we sold it. The varnish finish has barely had time to dry on this one and it already sounds great, so the future bodes well for the lucky next owner. With all of the high quality options, the original list price on this guitar was $8800.
