This model's been generating all kinds of buzz since its introduction. Martin's Golden Era guitars have been so popular and critically acclaimed that it was hard for people to figure out how a guitar could get any more "authentic" in its recreation of the magic prewar formula. Listen to one of these things and you'll figure out that this is no repackaged D-18GE - the Authentic is without question an outstanding and unique guitar that distances itself from its good but more pedestrian little brother. From the huge vintage V neck profile to the hide glue and t-bar neck reinforcement, the Martin folks stayed as close as possible to the original configurations that produced the outstanding instruments of the '30s. The bass on this guitar is absolutely HUGE - there's no other way to describe it. Beautiful open, full mahogany tone that would be right at home carving through a wall of rhythm at a big flatpicking jam while dropping jaws with this beautiful lightly-bearclawed Adi top. This is a special model that will only become more appreciated in the years to come when these fine materials have become too scarce and expensive to stay in common use. |
