Luthier David Morris stays busy with his authorized Martin repair shop and only finds time to build 2 or 3 guitars each year. This beautiful instrument recreates Norman Blake's 1920s Gibson Nick Lucas model and features Norman's signature alongside David's on the interior label. An unfortunate recording session accident left an indentation on the soft cedar top that's clearly visible in the photos. It's not through the finish and does not affect the guitar structurally in any way. Otherwise, the guitar is very clean, exhibiting only the slight surface scratches that come with regular playing. Both the tone and the appearance of the guitar are unique and striking. The myrtle/cedar combo provides a loud, responsive, rich tone for fingerstyle and a punchy, raspy, open tone when picked. Jumbo frets, a nice low action, and a fast neck profile make for an incredible playing experience. This very versatile instrument is definitely one of a kind and shouldn't last long at this price.
